The Notebook

⭐6/10

This was our Valentine's choice, a classic I had never actually seen. Weird one for sure. Much of this hasn't aged well at all. Gosling threatens suicide if she won't date him. They have a terrible, toxic relationship that includes physical violence. They also both cheat on their partners with each other, but my goodness that just seems to be the norm in Hollywood romance movies...

I thought this movie was mostly bad. Terrible writing, incredibly cheesy, over dramatic. Still, I couldn't help be be compelled by the romance at times. When he's all like, I wrote you 300 letters! Yeah, I felt that. I think their performances aren't amazing, but they definitely help out a pretty terrible script. Also, how well did they age Gosling up? That was impressive . But yeah I think it's just easy to be compelled by a handsome stoic man and a wildly horny girl.

As often as I wanted to like this movie, I just couldn't believe how dumb it was at times. That part where Goslings girlfriend walks in on him and Rachel McAdams and just like, stays for dinner? What? Also Gosling cures dementia with love? I just can't give this movie a high score.

Totally see why all the girls I went to grade school with loved it though.
