The Great British Bake Off (Series 9)
⭐9/10
So this season has a pretty interesting arc, and unfortunately it is not a very satisfying one because it is in fact reality TV. But at the beginning, you can't help but cheer for Rahul because he is the sweetest, most unassuming human to ever live, and he is also a phenomenal baker who genuinely thinks he is garbage. Because he wins, this is just a very happy ending. Unfortunately, he kinda limps to the finish line, nothing he does really blowing the judges away towards the end, just nudging out the others who also don't do anything very special. So while I thought this season was phenomenal and I indeed cried at the end, I felt just a bit was missing.
Rahul could have won star baker basically any of the first 6 weeks or so, and it seemed inevitable that he would win. As he starts to struggle at the end, i figured he would have this huge redemption to finish out. Of course that doesn't happen, and so I guess knowing the winner felt a little disappointing. Still, he was a joy to watch and I'm happy he won. It wasn't quite the dominating MJ run I was expecting, but maybe a bit more of a tame Dirk arc where if you stick it out, you get rewarded. Good for Rahul.
Anyways, good season. Paul Hollywood is sexy. The end.
