A Place Beyond the Pines
⭐8.5/10
Still, I loved this unique approach. This movie is very artfully made, the unique narrative only being part of that. It's very slow going with little dialogue at times, with lots of cool, moody shots. I really dig this style, especially this time of year. Kinda noir vibes, and Gosling is always perfect for these roles.
I don't want to say too much more, and fear I've already said to much. It's a pretty cool movie that you probably want to go in blind for. Maybe it's enough to say that it's smart, well written, nicely acted, and thought provoking.
I don't have too many negatives, though I guess I'll say that after part 1, the movie is never quite as interesting. There is also a teenager at the end who is so wildly obnoxious that I found it hard to stomach. That's kinda the point, but I just couldn't stand him. He was annoying in the wrong ways.
But yeah, I definitely recommend it. It's a movie type of movie. They had a unique vision and they executed it. What more can you want than that?
