The Office (Season 7)

⭐ 8.5/10

For sure the last season to get a good review, but this was great!  I remember where I was watching all these episodes the first time, the anticipation of knowing Michael is going to leave and who is going to replace him.  I think doing this mid-season is smart, and they do a great job in the episodes after he leaves with the new bosses.  Steve Carell and Will Ferrell at the bar the first time is so hilarious, I am convinced it is completely ad-libbed and they have amazing chemistry being funny together. Same with Ricky Gervais for that one scene, they sizzle playing the exact same person!

That's definitely the take away from this season, Michael leaving.  Tough to see such an iconic character go, and he leaves a space behind that can never be filled. He manages some hilarious moments, but the heartfelt final couple episodes really bring a tear to my eye.  Seems like he left on good terms, and the show gives you time to say goodbye. Top 3 most iconic TV characters ever?  Top 1?? He really was special, and they gave him a satisfying ending.

This season has the nepotism episode, counseling with Toby, and then the episodes with Michael and Holly rekindling which are all pretty good.  Threat Level Midnight is genius, a perfect way to play the greatest hits and see some old faces without doing a terrible flashback episode (which they have already done).

You can really see Andy getting a ton more to do here, and I remember at the time being 100% sure he was replacing Michael. So many episodes like his play for the Glee viewing part have a lot to do with him and his relationship with Erin.  Jim and Pam suck, they get nothing funny at all.  The christening is one of my least favourites in the whole series. Jim has a chance to take the manager role, and he passes, which is funny because Dwight gets it for a day, but I really think there was potential there with him as the manager for a couple episodes at least.  Seems like a natural arc for him, but instead he gets nothing.

There are still tons of laugh-out-loud moments, and I know those are going to become rarer so I really appreciated the longevity of this show.  26 episodes this season!  I don't think any shows could operate on this level for this long anymore. You had a great run, and I won't forget it, especially when they force feed us a remake in the next couple years.
