Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
⭐ 7.5/10
I can't say I'm big on this franchise, and have only watched a few here and there. I should also mention I watched this one with Willy and Corny, so any time I'm paid to watch a movie in theatres on a beautiful day with popcorn and candy, I'm in a pretty good mood.
But this one was not bad! I was basically expecting a CGI fest with little depth, and I would say that's true in the first half. Kinda weird to make a movie about monkeys that don't speak very well.
I think when the human characters came, there was a lot more going on. I won't say this movie had me rethinking what it means to be human, but there were certainly some interesting ideas being floated around. This is one of the few characters where humans are the side characters and it's cool to almost see us from another perspective.
But again, it's not like this movie is a powerful work of genius. It's competent, and looks pretty good, and has some cool action sequences. I thought Freya Allan was pretty good, finally unshackled from the disgraceful Witcher series. This movie was just a little better than I was expecting, so 7.5 is the score, and it kinda makes me want to watch the previous trilogy as those seemed to have been received pretty well.
