Mona Lisa Smile

This is an early 2000’s movie about Julia Roberts in the 50s moving from the west coast to the east to teach at the nations most conservative women’s college in art history.
I think this was maybe a pretty feminist movie when it came out? Really the only way Julia Roberts was subversive or progressive was she wasn’t married, said you could work a job and believed in birth control. I know that must’ve been wild for the 50s but it just didn’t land for me.
The cast in this is wild! Kirsten Dunst and Maggie Gyllenhaal being the stand outs as good girl bad girl opposites. But the real standout was Julia Roberts! That’s what movies are missing these days, her! I totally get why she was the it girl. Her beautiful wide smile and big brown doe eyes would make me fall for her any day.
