It’s true, I was wanting to keep this one in my back pocket if there ever came a time that I really needed to hurt Joe or gain some leverage over him. Fortunately for him, this book is too good to be used like that. I will find something else he loves to tear apart.
This book is a classic for a reason, I’m just sad I didn’t read it sooner. I think it’s safe to say this book changed my life. It helped me see the world in a better light, it helped me regain some whimsy for life, and it made me want to be a better person. Anne is just so charming and full of life, it’s hard to not want the absolute best for her.
Every person who stood against her was an enemy of mine. However, enemies are not long standing when it comes to Anne as she wins all over to her side whom she encounters - including me, for life.
I read this on the train to the city on a brisk fall day so it really was perfect. I wept pretty hard at a few places even though I was facing someone the whole trip. It was just so beautiful.
This book was almost not a 10 for me as the middle is quite meandering and gets a tiny bit repetitive. But the last 60 pages or so would be enough to make anyone soft hearted. My one critique is that I wish her and Gilbert made up sooner. But it was a good pay off in the end.
Every single encounter with Matthew had my poor heart and soul in a frenzy, and every turn of the page as Marilla grew to care for this little girl had me so emotional. I’ve been feeling some type of way for days after this. This book is truly magical.
