Game of Thrones (Season One)
⭐ 9.5/10

We kinda just started watching episodes here and there, and then what do you know? We finished a season. This show is great if you want to watch a movie in the evening that is only 50 minutes long, which seems to have been the vibe recently.
Anyways, similar to the book, this season of TV is phenomenal. This season is the tightest, everything leading to those final episodes. It focuses on all the best characters with really no weak storylines at all here that I can think of, and some characters having their best moments. Plus this season has the most sexy Dothraki.
We watched this over the span of a few months, so I can't say I have a lot of clarity on some of those earlier episodes. One thing that certainly jumped out to me was the child acting, with Arya being terrific, but also nothing compared to the absolute force that is Geoffrey. Never in the history of film or TV have we wanted a child to die, choking on his own blood like we have with Geoffrey. This might honestly be one of the greatest casting choices of all time. I couldn't get over how terrifically petulant and infuriating this little shit is. I wanted to jump into the tv and slap him.
Another quick hitter is I think the writing is outstanding in these early seasons. For some reason, one scene that stood out to me was the Love is the Death of Duty speech by old Aemon. So true!!
Anyways, terrific season. This is more than a blood and boobs fantasy series, though there is certainly plenty of both. But the sex appeal is all about the men here, with Robb being the headliner, and honorable mentions going to Jon (too young here), Drogo, Jorah, Ned Stark (hear me out! The accent!), and Tywin (hear me out! Silver Fox!!). Still, tiny room for improvement with a bit of dated effects and some exposition that feels a little stale for returning viewers (or readers). There is also a pretty problematic dynamic with Danny and Drogo that doesn't really exist in the book and I'm kinda puzzled by its inclusion.
