Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One
⭐ 7.5/10

I just watched this movie like twenty minutes ago and don't really feel the need to stew on it. It's exactly what you want from a Mission Impossible movie. Incredibly high stakes that never feel all too serious, some crazy stunts, some half-baked romance, some cartoonish villains, and an insane amount of buzzwords. The Key! The Entity! Computations! Crypto!
But anyways, I've watched enough of these to know how lame they are. I kinda like it. It's stupid, it's fun. That said, I've been telling everyone that this would be July's best movie. I had a lot invested in liking it. I liked it, had a good time, and yet I think it wasn't quite as good as Fallout, Ghost Protocol, or even Top Gun. There were fewer showstopping stunts in my opinion, though I suppose time will tell if they stick. The train sequence was amazing, and I liked the car chase stuff. I loved the blend of action and humor. Just nothing quite matched, say, Cruise scaling the building in Ghost Protocol.
Overall, I still recommend watching this movie on the big screen, in IMAX if possible. But it's totally okay to miss it. Let's just say I felt more emotions watching the 2 minute Oppenheimer trailer than I did the movie that followed.
