Lone Women - Victor Lavalle

⭐ 8.5/10

(Originally written by Magdalene)

This is an interesting genre mashup - literary, historical, horror, western, fantasy... The main character is Adelaide, who is running away from her ruined home with a heavy suitcase that can't be opened in tow. She moves to a remote Montana town, but soon the case is opened and bad things start happening. It was pretty gripping, and quite unlike anything I've read before. I feel like I missed some of the deeper themes, but I appreciated what he was trying to do.
