In the Lives of Puppets - TJ Klune

⭐ 8.5/10

(Originally written by Magdalene)

The concept of this one is weird - it's about a human named Victor who lives happily with three robots in a forest, but then they rescue another robot with an uncertain past, and when Victor's robot-dad gets taken and rebooted, they have to go on a journey to rescue him. It's a bit Pinocchio, a bit sci-fi, and a bit cyberpunk, with Klune's usual signature offbeat humour and quirky characters. I did really enjoy it, and I love the rich world that he built. It didn't quite have the same magic for me as Cerulean Sea did, but that might just be because that was my first Klune book and his writing felt so fresh and new then, and now I've come to expect it.
