Flight of the Concords - Season 2

⭐ 8.0/10

I'll be honest - I was a bit disappointed in this season and the show in general (it's already over!). I was expecting it to be the funniest show we'd seen in years and would launch an annual rewatch. It is terrific at times, again especially any Murray-centric moments, but in general it is just not as funny as I remembered. The songs are sometimes great and the best part, but also in many episode I dread when they break into song. Too weird! And I swear they wrote half the songs in one sitting.

With that said, this season has two of the show's best two episodes with "Murray Takes it to the Next Level" featuring Jim Gaffigan, and "Prime Minister." Also, the song "friends" is an all-time banger that I sing all the time.

So yeah, still a really solid show. This show has no normal characters, and I wonder if that might have helped. Mel continues to be a favorite of mine, but Jess hates her.

I think they could have done more than the repeated new girlfriend episodes. There are SO many episodes where they get new girlfriends. There is more to explore here! I really thought it was getting extreme towards the end where at least 75% of the episodes introduce new girlfriends and it gets a little repetitive in just 2 seasons.

Just feels a bit like squandered potential. The show's premise is great, has lots of terrific characters, and I wish they would have broken out a bit more, cut some songs, and gone on for 5 more seasons. This review is pretty negative, but the show is great. Just not perfect.
