Watching this was our way of showing solidarity with the Irish people on Saint Patty's Day (I'm always an ally 🫡). It's about a family grappling with life and hardship during the Irish civil war, trying to decide if they want to stick to their roots of move somewhere else for a better life. It's quite artsy, told mostly from a little boy's perspective, and also it's... In black and white.

I thought this movie was really nice. It's quite funny, similar to other Irish comedies like Banshees or Derry Girls. But like those, it has nicer, more serious moments that are often wholesome and touching. The boy is adorable, but Mance Rayder steals the show and my heart here.

Just a really nice, mostly light, safe, low-committment movie (just 90 mins) that I'd recommend to basically everyone. I think it has potential to be moving for some, but for others it will still be a good time. But seriously, why black and white! Get off your high horse!
