This trilogy has been amazing and I am sad to see it go. I have been blown away with the character transformations - everything about them is malleable in ways that make sense, with constantly evolving interests and motivations. This whole series has been so detailed and alive in a way that I love, and this final entry was no exception.
The book did drag a bit to start with a lot of politics and what felt like recap, but I was locked in for the rest of it and felt very rewarded by the twists and turns it took. Its hard to get into it without spoilers, but all the links between liveships and the serpents and the other magic we have seen in the series came together beautifully. At the end of the day this is more about the characters than the magic though and I love this cast.
I have adored both of the Hobb series' I have gone through, and I can't wait for the next one. I really thought it would only be downhill after the first, but I think this trilogy might have even been better.
I hated Malta to start this series, and by the end she might have been my favourite viewpoint. Wintrow got a satisfying conclusion that isn't your typical redemption story for someone that suffered so much. Others suffered tragic fates, and the ones with the happy endings have Frodo-esque trauma that prevents them from enjoying their happy ending. A perfect ending, and I can't wait to see if these characters show back up in future books.
