I had a super strange journey watching this show. I was excited for it and watched the first two episodes when they came out. It didn't really grab me and I had other things going on so I kinda just left it. Then a few weeks later, this show was all anyone was talking about and it was the greatest show ever according to all reputable sources. So I decided I wanted to get caught up before the finale, so I rewatched the first two, plus 8 more in one weekend. AND THEN I loved it so much that I made Jess watch it, so I rewatched all ten episodes again within a week with her. So yeah.

This show really is incredible and totally worth watching twenty episodes in a week. It does indeed take a bit of time to get going, but by episode 4 or 5 I think it is the most rewarding show I've seen in a long time. I think the writing, especially the dialogue, is the best feature, but i can't let that take away from the set design, the high-pressure action, the intrigue, creativity, and character development.

That is a million points, and I think they are all worth discussing, but I'll try to just focus on a few things that I liked most. I really loved Luthen, and I think Stellen Skarsgard stole the show here. He has my favorite 2 scenes and just always looks great with those flowing cloaks. I think one of the things this show does best is show how all positions have a lot of morally grey areas, and no character embodies that better than Luthen. But even the side characters were terrific and complex. Mothma, Deedra and Syril are all good examples.

Oh and the main character! He along with Bix are an all-time sexy TV couple (they are not a couple). No other comments on this.

My favorite episode was The Eye which I think was 50 minutes of perfect TV. Couple close seconds with One Way Out being there.

Anyways, a little slow to start, and didn't love the finale. That doesn't take away from the fact that this was one of my favorite TV experiences since maybe peak Game of Thrones.

Otherwise its just a 2000s raunchy comedy. These Apatow movies are way too long for comedies, and the feel-good endings take too long to get to. I liked the idea of a fake NBC show that Kristen Bell stars in, and those clips made me laugh. Jason Segel is fine, and he fits the depressed guy thing they are going for here. I will never understand why the two women in this movie are so beautiful and the two guys are pudgy idiots. I guess I do understand, given the target audience for these movies. Another thing, they clearly were in Hawaii for filming a bunch of this, but then there are a couple scenes that are clearly using a green screen for the background. Look at that cover! This is a YA horror book written by a trans Canadian author that knocked my socks off. A small town has secrets it's trying to hide, and after the death of a boy and a newcomer arriving, things start slipping out of control. It's a book about being trans or queer and living in a small town, and how a community creating a facade of a perfect town can backfire. Also maybe closing your eyes to anything that's "not your business" is not good actually! It's violent and full of rage, and I loved the way it played with time and perspective. Check the triggers, but if you're interested in reading it, I'd recommend going in blind without looking at reviews or a longer description! This is a short book of essays about ableism and disability justice, specifically relating to technological advances for disabled people. In 2024 I read another ABSURD amount of books, and I will not be commenting on what that says about me, my decisions, or the state of my mental health. So I'm just going to go straight into my favourite books of the year!
