Ticket to Paradise

This movie is not good. But you know what? That's okay, and I had a great time watching it. Julia Roberts and George Clooney absolutely carry this movie, and the packed theatre was roaring with laughter in a way that warmed my heart and let me know that I gotta loosen up a bit. Your parents will love this movie, and you could too if you just opened your heart.

This is the most predictable rom-com ever, as a divorced couple goes to Bali to convince their daughter to become a lawyer and call off her wedding to a local. They can't stand each other, but the teamwork required and the beautiful setting means they can tolerate each other. I wonder if that leads to anything else...

George and Julia were actually very funny, and I found myself laughing quite a bit. When they are not on screen I wanted to crawl out of my skin. The writing is so cliche, and the daughter actress is so terrible, it was very hard to watch. I think the writing was bad for the stars too, but somehow their charisma makes that okay. I was pretty blown away with the effect of their star power, and again, seeing this in a theatre with people that clearly love the stars was an interesting experience.

Another minor note is what in the world is Julia wearing throughout. She goes for these baggy oversized one-piece rompers that make her look like a cross between a Brooklyn artist and someone who works for pest control. Insane choices that I normally wouldn't notice but are impossible not to when the movie is set in Bali.

MVP goes to Julia's younger hotter pilot boyfriend. He was goofy and stupid and very funny.
