The Mummy

⭐ 6.5/10

I got to watch this with a room full of kids which you would think is the best way to watch, but also this movie is over 2 hours and the kids were all on their phones by the end. It's an odd, campy horror movie for kids that I probably would have loved and been terrified from twenty years ago, but this movie doesn't reeeeally work for adults. I know the internet is in love with Brendan Fraser in this role, and he sure is rugged and handsome, but I'm not sure I can remember a single other character from this and I only watched 3 days ago.

I love Egypt as a setting and totally dig the ancient Pharoah stuff. Honestly I was surprised when they left the ruins and stuff started leaking out into the city. I think I would have liked the movie more if it was a little more contained. I love the swashbuckler stuff like Indiana Jones and the early Uncharted games. But wait, do I? Maybe I like the idea of them more than the actual thing, because all these weird, supernatural adventure movies with ancient cities and people and curses always get around the same score from me. They are fun, to be sure, and I remember the highlights. But often I think I get bored while actually watching.
