Movie #1 of this weekends double feature. Before this movie came out I had heard nothing but good things and the trailer was wild so I was pumped to watch it. This was incredibly creative, original, ridiculous, funny, strange and weirdly moving. It starts out as a normal Chinese family that have to get their taxes done and turns into a multiverse action thriller.

They do a great job of making this movie really, really intense and then throw an incredible curve ball of ridiculousness that will make you remember it’s a movie. Legit some incredible action scenes in this. And I kinda jived with the way they explained the multiverse!

This movie is also about generational trauma, the internet, and parental relationships and how there is a huge disconnect there because the rift is so wide because of modernity and technology. The whole cast was amazing and my eyes may have welled up a time or two.

At the end of the day it really is hard to explain exactly what they are trying to say, and I walked out of the theatre not totally sure how I was feeling. But the more I think about it the more I like it. I think film buffs are gonna have a great time with this, but it definitely isn’t for everyone.
