Five Little Indians - Michelle Good

This book is about 5 indigenous kids that were part of the 60s scoop in BC, Canada. They were all taken by their parents to go to “school”, where they were abused emotionally, physically, verbally and sexually. At 16 they get a bus ticket to leave and all inevitably end up in the downtown east side of Vancouver.
This book was pretty sad but important. It was somewhat autobiographical but in story form which made it easier to digest. It really is insane what Canada did and I think it cannot be overstated the reparations that need to take place regarding the indigenous community in Canada.
We get a few different endings for these 5 people, some happy, but unfortunately most are sad. This book opened my eyes a lot to generational trauma and how that is passed down; how a lot of these people can’t just integrate into society like normal people. This book also won a ton of awards, as it should.
