The Matrix Resurrections

This movie has been crazy divisive, and although I'm not sure how I feel, I'm surprised it's garnered this controversy. I actually thought they played it a little safe in the end. I thought the opening was really awesome and played with your brain in only the way the Matrix can. It was awesome to be back in this universe (or have a peak into the true universe??) and thinking in ways that truly break your brain. There was also this great sense of meta analysis that I feel people may find corny, but I totally loved.
The Matrix can honestly get away with anything. Neo could wake up in the end in his apartment and realize it was just a dream and I'd have been like, wow, that's awesome, classic Matrix. But instead I think they just took some cheesy liberties to get the characters back on screen, and then got a little too cute trying to tell a super philosophical story that I think some will roll their eyes at. This movie gets super confusing trying to hash out the minor details that nobody cares about, but doesn't take the time to answer the big things. It truly is so convoluted that at some point you just have to roll with it and hope it will make sense to you in the end.
It kinda makes sense in the end, but not in a way that left me satisfied. For me it was a movie with some awesome ideas that they never took advantage of, with some action scenes that were not even as good as the ones they did decades ago. Yet in the end I was just thankful to be in that universe again, seeing some of cinemas most influential characters do their thing with Keanu being at his all-time sexiest. A fun trip to the theatres no doubt.
