The Clockmaker's Daughter - Kate Morton

⭐ 8.0/10

(Originally written by Magdalene)

This is the story of a house in the countryside of England with a mysterious history. Eloise is an archivist who comes across the sketch of a house she recognizes from her mother's bedtime stories, and so she tries to find out more about it. The book twists together the stories of different people who have lived there, including the spirit of a woman who died there in the late 1800s and remains to watch over the visitors. This book does what Kate Morton does so well - weaves together the lives of different people living in different times until it all comes together to form a picture of what really happened.

This isn't my favourite Kate Morton, because it's a little darker and a little less exciting. But I still felt like it was quite masterful, and she's so good at filling her books with emotion and strong themes that run through the whole thing.
