Royal Assassin

The second book in the Farseer Trilogy, I really liked this one! Like most sequels the tension gets higher, the threats are larger, and we get to meet more characters.
The series is about the bastard son of the former king-in-waiting, who comes to live at the royal court and is groomed to be the king's assassin. I probably mentioned it last book, but all the fantasy mechanisms are here. We have communication with animals, some telekinetic powers, court intrigue, royal bloodlines. And they work! I like the focus on a single character, and you get a good sense how he ages and grows throughout the books.
The first half of this book was a bit slower, kind of picking up the pieces from last book, but the final quarter of the book was incredibly exciting, and I read it all very quickly. I wouldn't say the finale was terribly shocking, but it was a cool twist that I was super in to. Might take a small break to savour it before I finish the trilogy.
