The Suicide Squad

⭐ 9.0/10

Holy crap y'all, James Gunn killed it with this one. If you saw the first Suicide Squad, most would agree it was a complete mess. I really liked that this was a soft reboot instead of being deeply connected to the first, as DC desperately needs to forget that first movie.

There were so many highlights. First of all, the story was fairly straight forward, but contained a number of twists and deaths that I did not see coming. Getting to see Starro the Conqueror on the big screen was also phenomenal. Harley's journey of self love and healing was also amazing. They did a lot of work to continue to distance her from the abusive relationship with Joker portrayed in the first movie, and are building her into a really strong character now. The minor superheroes were also fantastic, namely Polka Dot Man and Ratcatcher II (also King Shark was perfect). They did such a good job humanizing and grounding each character as the movie went along, giving them meaningful stories and purposes to fulfill. Finally, the movie was just wonderfully violent and gory. It felt like an R rated comic book and it was glorious.

Oh, also I gotta shout out John Cena as Peacemaker. He did spectacular and I'm very excited for his tv show coming out next year.
