Phew, hard to put a number on this one. This is a retelling of a medieval tale, so right off the bat you know the storytelling will be unique. This is far less fantasy adventure and much more an indie arthouse movie. I loved it for the most part, but I fully admit most of it went over my head.
This tale was a favorite of Tolkien's (he even has a published translation) and I loved seeing where Tolkien was obviously influenced. To me it was quite similar to FOTR, with a guy on a quest, running into one odd or quirky character after the next. Anything with similarities to Tolkien will automatically score high in my books, and it also just had these awesome, magical elements I love. It really was everything I love about high fantasy wrapped into one.
This movie is also beautiful, with amazing cinematography and compelling performances. It's great. I just wish I understood it. I've googled a few things but I'm not fully satisfied with what I've read. Maybe I'm just wishing that this had a modern message that fits into my modern expectations, and I can't really hope for that from a 1000 year old story. This movie is great, just expect to be pretty confused at the end.
