This actually might be the best movie I’ve ever watched. I’m not even exaggerating, I think I found the best movie ever made. Everything about this movie is perfect. I wasn’t even out off by the length of the movie (it’s over three hours long haha)
First off, this movie has one of the greatest ensemble casts I’ve ever seen. Tom Cruise, Julianne Moore, William H. Macy, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, John C. Reilly, etc. Every single actor delivers an all star performance.
The writing is so so great in this movie too. The way that every story is interconnected is genius, because it is done in a way that is not unrealistic, but comes about naturally. The dialogue is also too notch in this one.
The direction is close to flawless. Paul Thomas Anderson is slowly becoming my favourite director. The way the camera moves, the visuals, the use of colours, it’s all beautiful.
This movie is ripe with metaphors and symbolism as well. Lots of biblical references (interestingly enough mostly from Exodus 8:2) which I found very interesting. This one definitely could require a second viewing.
Also, it’s not very hard to make me cry in a movie, but man this movie made me bawl! There were a few moments that were absolutely heartbreaking. This movie honestly moved me so much.
In conclusion, Paul Thomas Anderson is a genius, this movie is perfect, and I loved every minute of it.
