A Quiet Place Part 2

A missed the first one in theaters, so I decided I would check out the second one with a crowd of people, support my friends John and Emily. Jokes on me, only one other person was in the theater with me...

I would rate this one about the same as the first one, probably because it has a lot of the same beats as the first one. The movie is clever, much like the first, but the novelty has worn off a bit. We know what the monsters looks like now, so this becomes more of just a monster thriller instead of a Jaws suspense movie. Still, they expand the world in interesting ways, and the premise of being forced to be quiet and then put in situations where it is almost impossible will always be entertaining.

The first 10 minutes or so are really the standout, as you see how this whole situation began, but I still found myself wanting more answers. But that's fine, it teased just enough that I will probably keep coming back for the inevitable followups.

My main takeaway from this is that Emily Blunt should be the biggest actress in the world (check out Sicario, for example) but instead she is in Mary Poppins and Jungle Cruise. Let's get this woman some superstar roles! This movie is a bit more about the kids, but she is a great action star. Speaking of the kids, the acting here is also great. They frustrate you the same way real kids would, but show sadness and pain and courage in believable ways.

The final point here is that its a great movie in a tight 1 hour 37 minute runtime! Honestly that should bump this movie up a full star, especially since this is clearly a universe now but they manage to show restraint. I don't mind a longer viewing experience when I pay to go to the theaters, but still, mad respect to my boy John. He has created something unique and successful and I am proud of him.
