This is My America - Kim Johnson

⭐ 9.0/10

(Originally written by Magdalene)

For the past 7 years, Tracy has been doing everything she can to get her dad off death row for a crime he didn't commit, and time is ticking down. And now her brother has just become the main suspect of the murder of a white girl and is on the run. So Tracy is trying to get legal help, plus find out what really happened.

This book will obviously draw some comparisons to THUG, which is valid, but it focuses a lot more on the American justice system and how Black men are portrayed in news stories. It also has a murder mystery element, which was cool, since Tracy is doing her own digging into the case, since the police aren't doing their jobs. It was super compelling and interesting, but it did have a love triangle that I hated.
