I must say, I wasn't really digging this movie in the first 10 minutes or so. The pace is so frantic, and the visuals are so OCD, I felt like this movie was targeting children who need to boot up a different youtube video every 5 minutes. But once I settled in and let it happen, I was rewarded with a very funny and exceedingly creative movie about family.
The story is told from the perspective of a dorky girl who loves to make weird movies, and is about to go to college, when her dad decides a family road trip will be a great send off. The father daughter relationship causes conflict, and the fact that it is told in her voice makes all the animated flourishes more understandable, almost like this is the movie she is making about herself.
There are a ton of visual flairs that really make this movie standout, and although they can be overwhelming they make this movie quite unique. It is the same people who did Into The Spiderverse, so if you liked that one you will do just fine. The creativity in the animation is really the standout to me, but I also love a good cautionary tale on technology.
If you are looking for a light hearted movie that will make you laugh and maybe force out a couple tears, I would highly recommend this. The cast is stacked with funny people, the writing is sharp, and the visuals are on a level of their own.
