Personally I really enjoyed this show. It wasn't perfect by any means and while there are some things they could have done better, there are a lot of things they did really really well.
One of my favourite parts of the show was watching the parallels between John Walker and Sam all hinging on the line from the first America, "not the perfect soldier but a good man". That is the criteria as to why Steve was originally chosen to receive the serum and take up the shield. John is chosen by the US government to take up the shield because he is the perfect soldier, but it quickly becomes clear that he is not a good man and the pressure of the shield and other extenuating circumstances (I'm trying to avoid spoilers here) lead to his unwinding. Sam on the other hand constantly seeks to care for people, always pursuing peace and reconciliation over violence. The show did a wonderful job building off of this theme.
I don't think I can talk about my absolute favourite theme without major spoilers, so I will avoid that haha. Message me and we can discuss it, cuz I can talk Marvel all day.
The show also handled really well what the reality of having 4 Billion people suddenly reappear after 5 years later would have on the world. The show takes place 6 months after "the blip" in the Marvel universe, after the conclusion of Endgame. The rise of extremist groups, governments vying for control and genuine hopelessness was very well handled and explored thoroughly (much better than Spiderman Far From Home).
I think my biggest complaint is that the show definitely does feel like US military propaganda a lot of the time, which is hard to avoid in Marvel unfortunately. A few acting performances come up a bit flat as well. There's some great dialogue, but also a lot of bad dialogue as well.
Overall though, this show was great and will have major ramifications for the ongoing of the MCU. Where Wandavision was a deep dive into grief and loss, this is definitely a transition show into future stories to happen in the MCU. So much of it held so much weight for the characters and the current state of the world, but ultimately points towards future projects which I am excited about.
