Parks and Recreation (Season 6)

⭐ 6.5/10

This show has very high highs, but in my opinion also some low lows. The middle seasons were great, but I think the series is bookended by some poor seasons. This final one is shorter, and my goodness that finale was the cheesiest thing I have ever seen. Everyone getting their perfect ending is fine, but leave a little something to the imagination for crying out loud. I love a time jump, and starting this season a couple years in the future is a great idea, but then jumping around willy-nilly to show us that everyone gets a perfect life is kind of ridiculous.

Anyways, I thought the finale was just a summation of how I felt about this final season. Everything falls into place perfectly, with none of our characters really changing who they have been. Andy and April don't grow at all over 6 seasons, and while I like how silly Andy is it feels like he gets even dumber as the seasons go on. And what is April's deal? Her being all anti-happy is quirky for a couple seasons, but just exhausting and not funny when she is an adult with adult responsibilities. A few moments of emotion don't make it any more bearable. Also, I know nothing about acting, but I am convinced Aziz Ansari is just a bad actor. He has funny lines, but that is good writing, and his delivery never quite lands for me.

I think Ben and Ron are the best characters here, probably because they have a sense of reason, and Ron with his quirks still evolves. This best recurring bit is Berney the accountant who is obsessed with Ben. I think the show has a glaring hole without Ann, who balances out Leslie's crazy and is maybe the most normal person on the show. Ben kind of fills his spot, but he has his own dorky and irrational behaviours.

Anyways, I really liked this show overall, but I think it is a couple tiers below its Office successor. That show had struggles late in its run as well, for obvious reasons, so kudos to this show for ending it after a reasonable amount of time.
