Ori and the Will of the Wisps

⭐ 9.5/10

(Originally written by Will)

I had high hopes for this sequel based on how much I enjoyed Ori and the Blind Forest and what I had heard about this from others, and I wasn't disappointed. I don't have much else to say that hasn't been said already, but a few of my favorite parts, plus a few remaining (minor) issues I had:

The Great

  1. The scenery and the art was just an absolute 10/10. My favourite times were when I would get to a new area with new scenery.
  2. The platforming mechanics give you so many different options and work together so well. Towards the end of the game it feels absolutely incredible when you make it through a super long stretch crowded with enemies and obstacles, all without touching the ground once.
  3. I do love the awesome chase scenes
  4. Loved Shriek as the villain, and the last scene in particular was a bit heartbreaking.

The Not-Quite-Great

  1. There were some times where it's not super clear how you're supposed to proceed. Do I need to get through this area somehow, or am I supposed to come back to it once I have new abilities? I like puzzles and areas I have to think a bit about how to approach something, but I found myself occasionally just googling a walk-through to point me in the right direction, or show me how to find something.
  2. This was great on the Switch, but I think it would have been a bit better on an xbox. Very occasionally it wasn't super smooth, and especially loading the map was inconsistent and would take a bit too long sometimes, which was annoying.

I think someone else mentioned this already, but I'm down for an Ori-verse.
