Elatsoe - Debbie Little Badger

⭐ 8.5/10

(Originally written by Magdalene)

Elatsoe is a Lipan Apache teen who has the power to commune with ghosts, a skill passed down through generations. When her cousin is murdered and visits her from the afterlife, she and her ghost dog sidekick need to figure out what really happened.

There's so much to love about this book. It's set in a world similar to ours, except there are ghosts, vampires, and special abilities, and so everything is just a bit off. I love how Ellie's culture is woven into the story, and several traditional stories are included. Ellie is asexual, so there's no romance at all, which is refreshing in YA and a plus for people who don't like that part of YA. But I love her friendship with her best friend Jay, as well as her relationships with her dog and family.
