Dragon Age II

⭐ 5.5/10

Yeaaah... This one wasn't great. I don't usually rate a game so low because if I don't like it, I don't play after a few hours. But this is the middle entry in a trilogy, so I felt I had to. I know this game had it's development super rushed, so I get it. I liked some changes they made, like the combat being more action oriented, having the main character be voiced, and also the game just looks so much better considering its only 2 years older than the first.

But it really loses the charm of the first. The writing is the biggest downfall, with this one clearly feeling quickly slapped together. This is a 3 part story, and while the final chapter of each offered some intrigue, none of the chapters were connected so it was hard to be invested. There was little in terms of character development, and I even ended up romancing a character I wasn't in love with because there were no better options!

The moral choices, which were such a great, philosophical part in Origins, weren't really present here. Either there was one clear choice (who should I side with, the incompetent king or the psycho serial killer?) or else neither choice was great (I mean, I guess I'll choose your cause, but I don't really want to kill for it like I'll have to...). To top it all off, I had a pretty buggy experience which sometimes drove me crazy.

So yeah, I'm still down with the formula and totally down for the next. Nobody really likes this game, but I was okay with spending the twenty hours to get through it to get to the next.
