Dishonored - 2012

⭐ 7.5/10

I've been interested in this one since Mat called it one of his favorite games, and couldn't turn down the chance once it came to Gamepass. It definitely took me a bit to warm up to some of the mechanics, but in the end I was glad to play a game that was unique and kinda forced me to play a way I don't usually play games.

Positives:

1) awesome oil painting art style with cool steam-punk aesthetic.

2) pacifist option! You play as an assassin but can beat the game without killing a single person.

3) smart level design where you can tackle things in a variety of ways

4) engaging story with meaningful choices that lead to different outcomes

5) forced me to play a stealthy assassin and it felt really cool to carry out a mission and never even be seen

Negatives:

1) this game gives you a million awesome and fun ways to kill people... But discourages you from ever using them? Great combat system that I never used...

2) this game is meant to be replayed, but in an era with millions of amazing games to play, what kind of lozer does that?

3) text based story telling. There has to be a better way of talking about the back story. It's all optional but still, if I wanted to read for 10 hours I'd buy a book!

4) by far the biggest negative: first person perspective. I can't describe what a downgrade this garbage is. Who likes this? If it's not making me nauseous, it's making me angry that I can't see my badass character, and in a game of stealth the awareness is so much worse than it needs to be. I hate first person so much.

Overall, a fun experience and makes me somewhat excited for future Arcane games. But for goodness sake just give me the option to play third person!
