The Santa Clause

We watched this movie multiple times a year growing up, so I expected that I would watch it now as a grown up, realize it is really childish, and think it is actually a bad movie. I was relieved to find that this movie is actually solid!
Tim Allen's snarky humour throughout the movie is still pretty funny, and even though the CGI is terrible they do a good job of constructing a sense of wonder with the north pole. The premise is also so great, where the man who kills Santa becomes Santa, and the year he has to grow into the role is really funny. Lots of great body humour with him putting on weight and growing a beard. Just a fun time all around.
There were several things that stood out watching this as an adult. The Santa ClausE, with an E, is a pun on a contract clause!? I never noticed until now. Also, I was able to empathize with the ex-wife and step dad. Scott totally seems like he is pretending to become Santa to win his son's affection, and when they think he has kidnapped Charlie I totally get how terrifying that would be, and how deranged Scott seems.
So ya, a pleasant rewatch, a movie I am sure I will continue to watch year after year.
