The Crown (Season 4)

I've never been crazy about this show mostly because I find it hard to care about the lives of spoiled, rich, pretentious people. I'm not sure what changed in this season, but for whatever reason I was really invested in the cast we've really gotten to know. I think in large part it's because we've now got a clear good guy to cheer for (Diana) and a villain to despise (Charles). I still appreciate that the show tries to capture the complexity of characters, such as the Queen and Thatcher, but I think overall the show benefitted from a classic good vs evil tale.
I thought this show still suffered a bit from trying too hard to have a message, especially in early episodes, but it came around in the end, or at least by then it didn't feel corny to me. There were also some terrific moments of high tension and arguments where a character made a good point and I'd pump my fist. The acting was incredible, and this show is the ultimate standard right now of historical retelling. I didn't think this was the perfect season of TV, but for a show about the British Royals to be this absorbing, it was pretty close.
