Rhythm of War (Stormlight Archive 4) - Brandon Sanderson

⭐ 6.5/10

I didn't think this book was particularly good, and combined with my really high expectations/hopes, I came out disappointed.

There were some really good stuff - major character development, significant storyline progress, etc - but it seemed like all that was in the last 20% of the book. I'm super invested in the series, and there's some kind of ending to the current storyline coming in book five so I'm definitely going to keep reading, but there were a few major negatives to this particular book:

  1. One of the strengths of Brandon's writing is his ability to create magical systems that make sense. Well, he went a little overboard in this book, getting insanely deep into intricacies that I just couldn't make myself care about. It's nice that he thought about this kind of stuff, but I just didn't need the 200+ pages on it.
  2. A couple key characters spent the whole book dealing with the same problems they've been dealing with in the last two 1000 page books - problems that were seemingly resolved a couple times already, and that I'm so tired of at this point.

Anyway, like I said - still worth reading if you're invested in the series, but probably my least favorite Sanderson book I've read.
