NBA 2K20

⭐ 6.5/10

Tough to know how to review a game like this. On the one hand, this game feels and looks like the NBA games I played as a teenager. It feels too much like a video game to feel like I'm playing basketball (manipulating AI, cheesing mechanics, etc.) but also is too much like basketball to be a good video game (you do everything right, yet still miss a jumpshot). For this reason, the single player is mostly frustrating, and the game is so clunky and has so much jank that I could never call it a good game.

But as a multiplayer game to kick around with some friends, this game is a delight. It's one of the best replacements to basketball in the winter, and the clunkiness is a hoot when you're playing together. It has provided a ton of laughs and good times, and for any NBA fan this is full recommend.

The game also went above and beyond with it's options. You can do anything, including My Player, be a GM, coach, etc. For quick games, you can play as any significant team in history, and there is no greater joy than playing as the 04 pistons, 16 Cavs, or 92 Bulls with players that are captured in great detail, as well as their movements. This is all great, but after realsing a game every year for several decades, I just wish they could work on the, you know, basketball part of this game.
