Living Undocumented

This is a short 6 episode series that follows different people from different countries living in the US undocumented/illegally. Every family they showed had been in America for quite a few years when Trump became president and suddenly all of their lives were literally flipped upside down.

This was a crazy doc to watch. It really showed how f*cked up the immigration system is in America and how detrimental it can be to individuals and families.

They were obviously pretty biased against trump but it’s clear that this system goes way back. From the beginning the system has never been good for immigrants but Trump just turned it all the way up with his zero tolerance policies.

This show made me feel so many things. Mostly anger at nationalists who take imaginary borders so seriously and don’t contemplate how real human lives are affected by that. I’m serious, I’ve never met a person who is nationalistic who didn’t make me mad.

But it also made me feel hopeful because these people are so resilient and lovely and just generally good people. They’re searching for a better life and often risk so much by coming to America and yet are so grateful and hardworking. I’ve had family who have gone through similar situations and it’s been heartbreaking to see families separated.

I think the thing that shocked me the most was how positive most of these people still saw the states. They were always so hopeful and saw so much opportunity within the country. Honestly the US doesn’t deserve them. I wish every anti-immigrant/refugee person would watch this. It’s riveting.
