I spent the first thirty minutes wondering when this would become a Christmas movie, and wondering why everyone in this town is so violent. But it became a pretty charming origin story, and I liked it. It definitely steals a ton from The Emperor's New Groove - entitled guy forced to part with his riches, befriended by a very large soft spoken man. Even the evil woman looks just like Yzma. The thing is, I love the Emperor's New Groove, so I was happy to watch a Christmas version of it.

Reminded me a bit of Arthur Christmas, in that it was a pretty unique Christmas story that I was engaged with the whole time. If you are forced to watch a Christmas movie, there are many many worse options.
