I have really struggled to find a resource that challenges me for some time. Back when I was a young(er) adult, philosophy, theology and academia in general was all-consuming for me, and I've tried to find a resource to pull me back into it. I've had some success, most notably with the Liturgist pod, but this one really scratches an itch in a way I haven't experienced for a long time.
It's a pod hosted by a British Christian philosopher who hosts two experts with opposing viewpoints to debate or discuss a given topic on a weekly basis, whether philosophical, theological or many times cultural. I'd never heard of this guy previously, but the way he is able to pull big names onto his show is incredible. We're talking William Lane Craig, NT Wright, Rob Bell, Jordan Peterson, Sam Harris, Ken Hamm, Bart Ehrman, Sir Roger Penrose - and that's just from the recent ones I've seen. I know that's mostly a list of white guys, but he gets a leader in all sorts of fields that are lesser known, at least to me. Today I listened to a discussion of gay rights between two gay men - one inclusive and one celibate. He's got representatives from other major religions for interviews and I've can't wait to dive into those. He recently hosted a discussion on things like the Christian response to BLM, Covid, politics, etc.
Each discussion has been really great to hear and always forces me to think and stretch in ways I haven't before, or at least not in a few years. The host is a terrific moderator that keeps things going and keeps things interesting, and he's somehow fostered this amazing environment for awesome, civil discussion (though I've listened to a few that get "feisty" as the host describes them). Also super bonus points for having an incredibly soothing voice that I want to listen to all day. British people man.
This podcast is great you guys. If you have any desire to hop into hot topics in an approachable yet academically rigorous way, this is the pod for you. Just have a look at some of the topics and I'm confident you'll want to spend some time here.
