SteamWorld Dig

You're a steambot (steam robot) named Rusty who's given the deed to a mine out west by a somewhat mysterious uncle when he passes. The game consists of you exploring the mine, and the deeper you go the more is revealed about the world, your uncle, and other mysteries you're chasing.
I loved pretty much everything about this game.
- The art was great
- The game mechanics were pretty clever, and while not revolutionary or anything it worked really well
- The difficulty level was enough to keep me interested, but there weren't any parts that I had to try over and over again (looking at you Ori)
- For some reason I love any game that is based around mining
- It's relatively short, so I don't have to dedicate my entire life to it to be good. I tend to play through games pretty slowly and carefully, and I finished this one in 7 hours.
I paid $3 for this on the Switch (it's on sale right now, and it's not new), so you can't go wrong.
