Rocket League

⭐ 10.0/10

I have been playing this game consistently since 2016, and probably will keep playing for many years to come, so I thought now would be a good time to review since it is now free to play! If you are not aware, this is a soccer game, but you control a rocket powered car that can leap into the air and fly around, all in attempt to score in the other team's net.

The learning curve for this one is pretty steep, but when you play online you are always matched against people around your skill level, which keeps it fun. Similar to chess, the progression can be frustrating, like when you hit your highest rating ever but then lose ten games straight and are lower than you have been for months. But some of my most satisfying video game moments have come from this game. Whether it is hitting a shot you have been practicing, dribbling or faking opponents, making a super clutch save in overtime, this game has given me adrenaline rushes like no other. It is super fast paced, and matches are only 5 minutes, so it is really easy to play for long periods of time.

I think the only negative here is the toxicity of the players. In game chat can become a mess, and even with the ability to report players it can be very frustrating when you make one mistake, your teammate votes to forfeit, you vote not to, and then they stop playing and harass you in the chat. Probably happens once a night honestly, which is not great. Its times like those when I evaluate my life, remember it's just a game, and then rage back at them in the chat. Just kidding.

But ya, this game is loads of fun, the professional scene is thriving, and I don't think I will ever get tired of it. This game is complete skill, since everyone is driving the same cars with the same powers, so the only way to get better is to keep playing.
