Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key - Jack Gantos

I loved this book as a kid, and it still holds up.

Wow, poor Joey! This little guy knows he's good at heart, but JUST CAN'T HELP BEING SO WIRED. I liked the point that a lot of his problems aren't his fault, and he really does need some meds. But he also really needs to work on decision-making and impulse-control. The way he kept ignoring directions and not thinking about consequences drove me crazy, but at the same time I could really empathize, because all he got were some dud meds! What a great way to help readers understand how it feels to have ADHD.
