Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

⭐ 7.5/10

This is a game about a treasure hunter, and the plot felt like an homage to movies like Indiana Jones or the all time classic National Treasure. The protagonist is a handsome, suave, and talented action hero that goes along with the genre, though I admit he only has half the word assosiation skills of Nic Cage.

It's a short, linear, story driven game that is propelled by cinematics, which has become my favorite genre. It combines platforming and puzzles with shooting guns, which is a pretty standard recipe from Naughty Dog, but I must admit the volume of shooting sequences just doesn't fit in with the story here. Often the game felt like the platforming was used just to get you to the next shooting gallery.

The voice acting and motion capture were incredible and sorta revolutionized these types of video games. It makes it feel like you're playing a role in a movie. And if this game was a movie... Well it would still be a below average one, but because it is a video game it has that added advantage of being able to wear the skin of the main character. The story is kinda lame by the end, but I really do think they were going for the Indiana Jones vibe (which is a pretty lame movie, fight me).

So overall, I'm happy with this game as an entry point into the series. It has its flaws, but it holds up amazingly well for a game that is over a decade old. Looking forward to the next.
