So. Ever since my experience having a medically fragile/disabled child, I struggle with most self-help/memoirs because I just cannot handle getting advice from someone who hasn't suffered immense loss or ongoing pain. I just can't take them seriously.
That's why I appreciated this book. Sarah suffered a traumatic car accident a few years ago that has left her dealing with chronic pain, possibly for the rest of her life. Her career hasn't gone the way she hoped or planned. She hasn't found the secret to perfect health and happiness.
And yet she holds onto her faith. She had to take it apart and put it back together, but it's still there. She acknowledges that she hasn't arrived.
Like Maggie, I appreciated her meditations on God as Mother and on accepting the inherent holiness of the body. But honestly, I was more interested in her chapters that were more narrative in nature, so I'm putting that in my back pocket in case I ever write a memoir of my own.
