It's so hard for me to rate a movie like this. It is considered one of the greatest movies ever made, and it's clear to see why. It is in all ways an artistic masterpiece when it comes to visuals, audio, writing and acting. You identify with the main character even as he feels and thinks things you couldn't possibly identify with.
Yet I have a tough time actually saying I enjoyed it. I felt sick to my stomach for much of it, or dizzy or like I was on drugs or like I was losing my mind. It is a movie made up of all the scenes that make you most uncomfortable from Life of Pi, Lord of the Flies, or even now The Aviator. But I know that's the whole point of the movie, especially emphasizing the horrors of war. Part of me really loved it, but I also know I could never recommend this movie to anyone unless they enjoy these kinds of artistic endeavors. It's almost like a disturbing, but brilliant abstract painting.
This movie feels like a 10 or a zero, and I feel like I want to give it both. I both loved and hated it, but I think there is value in that.
