A Sword in Her Hand - Jean-Claude van Rijckeghem and Pat van Beirs

⭐ 7.0/10

(Originally written by Magdalene)

The fictionalized story of a real girl, the daughter of the last Count of Flanders, and it was originally written in Dutch. It's about Marguerite, who was unfortunately born a girl during the Middle Ages, and her father is a real jerk about not having a male heir. Marguerite is pretty awesome, learning how to sword fight and running wild with the squires. It was a cool look into life during the Middle Ages, especially since it took place outside of England.

Marguerite spent so much time trying to be free from the confines of her position, and then it didn't really end how I wanted it to, but I guess there's not that much you can do when it's based on a true story... The romance was also handled pretty awkwardly, but it was written by two men.
