Bronze and Sunflower - Cao Wenxuan

This is the story of two kids living in a village in rural China during the Cultural Revolution and all of the hardships they need to go through in order to survive. It reminded me strongly of Little House on the Prairie, since nature and survival play big roles in the story, plus it doesn't really have an over-arching plot - more like a collection of stories and adventures that the children go through.
So it wasn't a particularly compelling read, but the kids were sweet, their brother-sister relationship was heart-warming, and reading it felt really relaxing and soothing, even though the characters were struggling. It's a very immersive experience in a time and place that's so unfamiliar. This would be great as a read-aloud for kids who like the Little House books.
