Stranger Songs - Ingrid Michaelson

⭐ 10.0/10

I stumbled across this album by accident one day, and what a happy accident it was! I’ve enjoyed a couple of Ingrid’s songs in the past, but never listened to enough of them to consider myself a true fan of hers. Until now. This album is definitely in my top 5 favourites of all time, and she has earned the title of my favourite female artist.

If you can’t tell by the title, it’s an entire album of songs inspired by Stranger Things. As a big fan of the series, that piqued my interest right off the bat. I went in expecting a fun listen. I was not prepared for the emotional rollercoaster I was about to embark on. I danced, I smiled, I cried, and I found my love for the show renewing and enhancing with every song.

Ingrid, being a self-proclaimed superfan of Stranger Things herself (celebrities, they’re just like us!), put so much thought into the writing of these songs to help the listener get into the minds of the characters. She stays true to the storyline while also offering fresh perspective you may not have considered upon first viewing. Netflix should pay her the big bucks for creating such a perfect companion to their series, and it should be mandatory that all who enjoy the show must listen to this album. I have spoken.

This album is drenched in nostalgia and loaded with fun easter eggs relating to specific scenes or lines in the series. I highly recommended reading her descriptions of each of the songs and the meaning behind the writing.

TLDR: if you like Stranger Things, listen to Stranger Songs.

I can’t guarantee you’ll like the music style or enjoy this album as much as I did, but if I manage to convert at least one fan, this review will have been worth it.
